Product Overview

Matching the right chrome-moly grade to each boiler zone

Boiler tubes run under high internal steam pressure, high fire-side heat flux and metal temperatures well above the creep range of carbon steel. Alloy steel boiler tubes add chromium and molybdenum so they keep their strength, resist creep and stand up to steam-side oxidation. Grades are graded by temperature: T12 and T11 suit economisers, waterwalls and low-temperature superheaters, T22 suits final superheaters and reheaters, and T91 covers the hottest sections of supercritical and ultra-supercritical boilers.

All boiler tubes are seamless, hot finished or cold drawn, and heat treated to ASTM A213, with general requirements per ASTM A1016. For projects under the Indian Boiler Regulations (IBR), we supply tubes from IBR well-known mills with Form III-A certification. Each tube is hydrostatically or electrically (eddy current) tested, stencilled for traceability, and supplied with EN 10204 3.1 certificates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about alloy steel boiler tubes

As a general guide, T12 and T11 are used for economisers, waterwalls and low-temperature superheaters. T22 is used for final superheaters and reheaters in subcritical boilers. T91 is used in the hottest superheater and reheater sections of supercritical units. The final selection always follows the boiler designer's calculations.

Under the Indian Boiler Regulations, tubes used in boilers in India must come from IBR-recognised well-known makers and be certified on Form III-A by the mill and an approved inspecting authority. We supply IBR boiler tubes with all required documents.

Both are possible under A213 / A1016. Pressure-part designs to ASME Section I and IBR often specify minimum wall thickness, which uses a 0 / +20% (or similar) tolerance band. Please state the basis in your enquiry.

Each tube is hydrostatically tested at the pressure calculated per ASTM A1016 (P = 32000 t/D in psi units), or it receives a non-destructive electric test such as eddy current or ultrasonic testing, as agreed in the order.
