Product Overview

Higher creep strength for demanding steam and hydrogen service

ASTM A182 F22 is a 2.25% chromium – 1% molybdenum ferritic alloy steel forging grade. The higher alloy content compared to F11 gives superior creep-rupture strength, better resistance to high-temperature hydrogen attack and good oxidation resistance at temperatures up to about 600°C (1110°F). F22 is offered in Class 1 and Class 3, with Class 3 being the higher-strength option most often used for ASME B16.11 socket weld and threaded fittings.

Our F22 forged fittings are produced from certified forgings or forged bar, precision machined and annealed or normalized and tempered at a minimum of 675°C (1250°F) as required by ASTM A182. Each lot is hardness tested and 100% PMI verified, then dispatched with EN 10204 3.1 certificates. IBR documentation, NACE MR0175 compliance and third-party inspection are available on request.

  • Higher creep-rupture strength than F11
  • Resistant to high-temperature hydrogen attack
  • Class 1 & Class 3 strength levels
  • Matches A335 P22 pipe & A234 WP22 fittings
  • Socket weld, NPT & BSPT threaded ends

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about A182 F22 forged fittings

Both classes have identical chemistry (2.00–2.50% Cr, 0.87–1.13% Mo). Class 1 requires a minimum tensile of 415 MPa and hardness of 170 HBW max, while Class 3 requires 515 MPa tensile, 310 MPa yield and hardness of 156–207 HBW.

F22 has roughly double the molybdenum and more chromium than F11, giving higher creep-rupture strength and better hydrogen-attack resistance. It is chosen for higher temperatures and pressures where F11 would require heavier sections.

Per ASME B16.11, Class 2000 threaded fittings correspond to SCH 80 pipe, Class 3000 to SCH 160 and Class 6000 to XXS. For socket weld fittings, Class 3000 matches SCH 80 and Class 6000 matches SCH 160.

Yes. F22 is widely used in hydrogen service in line with API RP 941. For sour service, we can supply fittings with hardness controlled to NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 requirements, with test reports included.
