ASTM A182 Alloy Steel Slip On Flanges

Tubewell Steel & Engg. Co. manufactures, stocks and supplies alloy steel slip-on flanges from Mumbai, India in ASTM A182 F5, F9, F11, F22 and F91. A slip-on flange is bored slightly larger than the pipe OD, slid over the pipe and fillet welded inside and outside – offering quick alignment and lower installation cost for moderate-pressure chrome-moly lines.

Product Overview

Easy-to-fit flanges for moderate-pressure alloy steel piping

A slip-on flange has a short hub and a bore slightly larger than the outside diameter of the pipe. The pipe is inserted into the flange, set back from the face by roughly the pipe wall thickness, and then fillet welded at the hub and at the bore. Because the flange slides freely along the pipe, it is easy to align during fit-up, needs less accurate cutting than a weld neck and is lighter and less expensive to forge – a practical choice for utility, low-pressure steam and process lines.

We supply alloy steel slip-on flanges forged in ASTM A182 F5, F9, F11, F22 and F91, heat treated per specification and machined to ASME B16.5 or EN 1092-1 (Type 01 plate and Type 12 hubbed slip-on). Under ASME B31.1 / B31.3 the calculated strength of a slip-on joint is about two-thirds that of a weld neck under internal pressure and far lower under fatigue, so we recommend weld neck flanges for severe cyclic duty. All flanges carry heat traceability and EN 10204 3.1 certification.

  • Quick alignment and simple fit-up
  • Lower forging and installation cost
  • Double fillet weld – no pipe bevel needed
  • Ideal for low / moderate pressure lines
  • RF and FF facings in all grades
  • Ready stock in Class 150 & 300

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about alloy steel slip-on flanges

The pipe is inserted into the flange bore and set back from the flange face by about the pipe wall thickness plus 3 mm. Fillet welds are then made on the outside at the hub and on the inside at the bore, as shown in ASME B31.3 / B31.1 typical details.

Choose a weld neck flange for high-pressure, high-temperature or cyclic service, where full radiography is needed, or where the joint will see significant bending or thermal fatigue. Slip-on flanges suit lower-pressure, non-cyclic lines where cost and ease of fit-up are priorities.

PWHT requirements depend on the grade and the throat thickness of the fillet welds. Chrome-moly grades such as F22, F9 and F91 generally require preheat and PWHT per ASME B31.1 / B31.3, while thin-section F11 welds may be exempt under certain conditions.

ASME B16.5 covers slip-on flanges in Class 150, 300, 600, 900 and 1500 (Class 1500 up to NPS 2 1/2"). We also supply EN 1092-1 Type 01 and Type 12 slip-on flanges from PN6 to PN64.
